BJP opposes withdrawal of Kanthanapally project

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would oppose if the State government decided to give up the ongoing Kanthanapally project envisaging benefitting farmers of Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam districts, said T. Rajeswar Rao, M. Dharma Rao and Vannala Sriramulu – all former MLAs of BJP.
Following the demand from farmers, the Kanthanapally project was conceived long ago and Rs. 94 crore were already spent on it.
The present Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government was planning to give it up. A new project in Karimnagar is being planned cancelling the Kanthanapally, which is unwarranted.
‘Protect ayacut’
There is an urgent need to protect the ayacut settled under Kakatiya canal by diverting Godavari waters from Kanthanapally project which is 104 km. The Devadula and Pranahita Chevella – all projects have clear ayacut plans.
The Kanthanapally project also aims at irrigating 7.5 lakh acres in three districts.
“Giving up this project is nothing, but killing the farmers in three districts,” Mr. Dharma Rao said.
TRS leaders flayed
Some of the TRS leaders were out to fill their pockets in the name of contracts and new schemes toying with silly ideas. K Chandrasekhar Rao is no engineer, but he is meddling with the designs unmindful of interests of farmers. However, some TRS leaders were also worried about Kanthanpally project, but are unable to raise their voice.
The BJP would not keep quiet on this demand. The party would mobilise lakhs of farmers from three districts and lay seize to TRS office and Assembly soon if the government failed to come out clearly on continuing the Kanthanpally project, the BJP leaders vowed.
TRS MLAs – Konda Surekha, D. Vinay Bhaskar, Kadiam Srihari and others should explain to people of district on the proposed plan to shelve Kanthanapally project, Mr Rajeswar Rao demanded.
