DENGUE FEVER IN ANDHRA STATE

Dengue fever is taking turns spreading in fits and starts in the different districts. The disease went on the rampage in Chittoor district with nearly 1,400 positive cases being registered in the district. The number of deaths caused by dengue in the district has been put at 30, but the authorities were saying that they had to still verify the number.
There has been in a drastic drop in the number of cases in the district, but even to date the number of positive is near to 170. The worst affected areas are in Madanapalle division accounting for 75 per cent of the cases. The dengue cases of the district are being treated in CMC, Vellore, St John’s Hospital, Bangalore, SVRR Hospital, Tirupati, Government Hospitals at Chittoor and Madanapalle.
Many dengue cases have also been recorded from Kurnool, Kadapa and Anantapur according to the Kurnool District Malaria Officer Hussain Peera. He said several cases come to the Kurnool Medical College Hospital from the neighbouring districts of Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor.
According to the data, out of the 333 suspected cases from Kurnool only 28 were confirmed, the number of confirmed cases from other districts are Kadapa 182 and Anantapur is 215.
No less than 61 patients have tested positive for dengue in Prakasam district this season, with a spurt of cases in the western parts of the district.

District Medical and Health Officer J.Yasmin said serum samples of 184 persons were sent for testing for suspected dengue at hospitals in Giddalur, Markapur, Cumbum, Bestavaripet, Darsi, Podili, Chirala and Chinnaganjam.
“We have taken up house-to-house surveys to assess the incidence of dengue,” Dr.Yasmin said, adding that anti-larvael measures were taken up with special focus on 111 villages in western Prakasam where viral fevers are on the rise.
A second round of DDT spraying has been completed in areas vulnerable to malaria. Drinking water sources have been chlorinated by Medical and Health Department staff in coordination with Panchayat Raj, Rural Water Supply, municipalities and panchayats across the district, she said. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences director B. Anjaiah said no dengue cases have been admitted to the hospital.
In Vizianagaram 16 cases tested positive, but no deaths have been registered till now, according to Health Department.
